Constipation Causes and Helpful Tips

Are you constipated? We have all had to deal with constipation from time to time. Some people unfortunately suffer to often. And these people will tell you what a horrible experience constant or frequent constipation can be. There are many different reason people experience constipation and some vary but here are the common causes.

1. Fast food! We here in America like things fast! Fast Cars, Fast downloads, and our food is no exception. With our go go go mentality we eat our meals at places like fast food restaurants and grab pre-packaged meals from the grocery store. We feel full and go about our day, then later experience digestive problems. The reason is simply not enough Fiber! The nutritional value of these quick meals are tremendously low especially in the Fiber department. The body needs sufficient Fiber in order to stimulate effective bowel movements.

2. Not Enough Water! The general population as a whole does not drink enough water each day. Water is Very important to proper digestion. When fecal matter enters the rectum, the small amount of water remaining in it is absorbed. Because bowel movements require water to move waste effectively it becomes harder to pass the stool. That is why you feel like you have to strain to get rid of the waste.

3. Exercise! People leading an increasingly sedentary lifestyle may be most affected. If you are not moving neither will your stool! Just adding a small amount exercise to each day such as walking or stretching can definitely help things get moving.

4. Pregnancy! Many pregnant women experience constipation due to the Hormonal changes and the pressure from the uterus on the intestines. Now that you know the causes lets discuss some helpful tips for Prevention and treatment!

1. Fiber! I already covered fiber but it important enough to state again! Increasing the amount of Dietary Fiber in your diet will help tremendously! You can get the extra fiber from fresh fruits and vegetable like Berries, grapes, broccoli, Potatoes, carrots, and brussel sprouts. If you can't or wont eat more fruits and vegetables than a fiber supplement may be your answer. Also if you are diabetic the extra sugar in many fruits may cause problems so a fiber supplement may be your path to relief.

2. Drink enough water to help your body out! Every cell in your body needs oxygen including those in the digestive system. Be sure to stay hydrated and you will notice a difference.

3. Get out and walk! Walk for 15-30 minutes each day or whatever you can do. Like I said when you move your poo moves also! If you are unable to walk try stretching such as yoga or something you feel comfortable with. These 3 tips can help improve your constipation problems, used by themselves or in conjunction. I hope this has been informative and enlightening...Pun intended!
